Transcription: DNA segments are used as the templates to recreate and store molecules of RNA. This helps a cell By creating RNA within the cell, and makes it possible for genes to create thousands of RNA molecules. Think of it as a copying machine, it copies images like transcription copying the RNA.
Translation: Converts mRNA message to an amino acid sequence. This helps the cell by creating a sequence for the amino acids and when amino acids are formed that means there are proteins.think of this as a post office they sort the mail in certain piles to create a sequence so the mail does not get lost. The same way mRNA converts the amino acids into a sequence.(below transcription) cite: http://jm3436.k12.sd.us/Event/dna%20synthesis.jpg

STRUCTURE OF DNA: The red line on the left is the sugar phosphate backbone, the nucleotides would be located on the complementary strand of mRNA and on the DNA, The base pairing is Where guanine and cytosine and also adenine and thymine, in this case G-C, A-U, A-U, C-G, A-U, T-A,the hydrogen bonds are located in between the base pairs where they bond together. The structure and make-up of DNA allows it to perform its function so effectively by all of the parts of DNA performing their job to contribute to the whole strand of DNA. THis also helps the entire cell which helps the living organisms. Chargaff, Franklin, Watson, and Crick helped determine the structure of DNA by having Chargaff create his stating that adenine=thymine and guanine=cytosine. Franklin helped by finding the DNA pattern is in the shape of an X showing it is formed like a helix with two strands. Watson and Crick helped by looking at FRanklins explanation of how it is formed and building a double helix model proving that, that is what the DNA structure looks like.
